More about the Program

Visit Central Library on Tuesday, February 21 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. p.m. to meet local author Dr. David Spener of Trinity University. He will tell the story of the evolution of the slave spiritual “We Shall Not Be Moved”.  After becoming an anthem for the labor and African American civil rights movements in the United States, it would also be sung in Spanish as “No nos moverán,” first by striking pecan shellers in San Antonio, then by the United Farm Workers in California, and finally overseas by activists opposing right-wing dictatorships in Spain and Chile. Call 210-207-2500 or visit mysapl.org for more information about this and other programs.
