Ada's violin : the story of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay by Susan Hood

The 2017-2018 Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List is now available, so kids in third through sixth grades who'd like to vote for a winner next January can start reading.

Twenty books were selected for the nominee list, and one is Ada's Violin by Susan Hood. This is the story of Ada Rios and the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguy -- this orchestra is made up of children from Caterua, Paraguay. Ada and the other kids were too poor to afford instruments when a music teacher came to town, but that didn't stop them -- they used trash from their town's dump to make their instruments! After many hours of hard work, the orchestra started playing concerts in Paraguay and all over the world.
